HENRY GUMMER .02 Bravo Silva |
New York duo Bravo Silva makes artful pop rock music that is at once extremely listenable and sonically complex. Acknowledging the limitations of contemporary indie-rock, Bravo Silva balances the genre's self-awareness with an unguarded love for accessible, intelligent songcraft. Working together, Henry (Silva) Gummer and Joel (Bravo) Schudson create rock tunes that take a crash course through 80s radio rock melody, singer/songwriter verse, and 70s prog rock theatrics. Their synergetic collaboration is musically dynamic: while Silva's husk-and-silk voice reaches for far ends of a dramatic range, Bravo's subtle yet deft guitar work supports and challenges hook-filled song writing. Lush and textured soundscapes call to mind the arrangements of Blonde Redhead and 10cc, and pop-oriented melodies draw from The Police and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. However, once their melodious hooks set in, the band moves on. Never settling, Bravo Silva changes course just as everything becomes comfortable. Bravo Silva recently finished recording their self-titled debut, produced by Malachi DeLorenzo and soon to be released by Streak Music. For their live sets they are joined by M Wolf (drums), Daniel Gower (synths), and Pete Van Leeuwen (bass).

LINDSAY MAC .01 Singer Songwriter Cellist |
Cellist and singer-songwriter Lindsay Mac offers a fresh look at acoustic music by combining folk/pop structure with plucked and bowed cello.
Lindsay recently opened for KD Lang at Boston’s Fleet Pavilion and "folk godess" Catie Curtis at Pittsburgh's South Park Amphitheater. She has been featured on Nashville’s NBC-affiliate television series, “Spotlight ON: Performing Songwriters”. Lindsay Mac's image appears in Guitar World, Performing Songwriter, and Women Who Rock magazines as a part of a promotion deal with the Fostex Corporation.
Lindsay recently finished her debut album is now on a national tour in support of “Small Revolution” - aptly named as Mac straps her cello to her body in order to play and sing on stage. Contributing their wonderful and unique voices to the album are two-time Grammy-winning cellist, Eugene Friesen, famous fiddler, Matt Glaser (Rounder Records’ The Wayfaring Strangers), and pianist Tim Ray (Bonnie Raitt, Lyle Lovett, Jane Siberry). The album is currently being played on over 90 stations and 40 states and provinces with more stations adding it every week.
Miss Mac has even kept up her bowing technique enough to play with jazz bass legend Charlie Haden and saxophonist Michael Brecker in Carnegie Hall at the JVC Jazz Festival in 2003.
Born and raised by hard-working, party-hungry, bohemian parents in Iowa, Lindsay was fed pork tenderloin and Midwestern microbrews for breakfast. This accounts for her wholesome good looks and generally bad breath.
After moving east for school at Dartmouth College in New Hampshire, and after short interludes at The Royal College of Music in London, The San Francisco Conservatory and Berklee College of Music in Boston, this classically trained musician started fooling around and began singing and plucking little ditties on her cello. The ditties became deep and intricate songs and now she makes a career out of singing and plucking her cello while always striving to write rich, provocative lyrics.

MICHAEL MARKAVERICH .71 Jazz Pianist |
This award-winning jazz pianist has never seen a piano in his life nor has he ever seen a musical note written on paper --- he is blind. "A lot of people ask if I play by ear, " says Mike, "but I tell them usually I play the piano with my fingers." Mike began playing the piano at age 3 and started classical studies in the 4th grade. He studied jazz history, theory and improvisation with Dwike Mitchell and Willie Ruff, trumpeter Don Cherry, and French horn virtuoso Bob Northern. Possessing a prodigious memory, Mike has a vast repertoire at his disposal encompassing tunes from the 20's to present day. Mainstream, straight-ahead jazz is Mike's strength, but he is equally comfortable with stride piano of traditional jazz, hard driving bop and blues, and sensitive renderings of pop and Broadway show tunes. He has had the benefit of working with and learning from such jazz greats as Dave McKenna, Maxine Sullivan, Dick Johnson, Marie Marcus, Bill Britto, Brian Torff, Bob Wilber, Ira Sullivan, and Buddy Defranco. Special events have included the Keys to the City Concert Series in Boston, The UNH Traditional Jazz Series, the 1986 Great American Jazz Piano Competition, 2nd & 3rd Annual Jazz Festivals at the Grove Park Inn in Asheville, NC, and a 20th Reunion Concert at Hopkins Center/Dartmouth College.

JOEL SCHUDSON .02 Bravo Silva |

EMILY ARIN SNIDER .00 Songwriter |
A Los Angeles native, Emily Arin migrated to a small town in Schuyler County, New York in August 2007 with the goal of diving deeper into the craft of songwriting—"woodshedding" as it were. Her growth as a songwriter this past year has attracted an amazingly talented cast of Ithaca-based musicians (Peter Glanville, Gordon Rowland, Brian Dozoretz) to bring her shows to life. Additionally, she has had the pleasure of joining Jennie Lowe and the Fire Choir (formerly the Jennie Stearns band) singing harmony and performing at the esteemed Finger Lakes Grassroots Festival of Music & Dance.
A recent article published in the Ithaca Journal reads, "A creative writer, a journalist, a gardener…and an employee at all manner of odd jobs, Arin is at her core an incredibly gifted songwriter. On tracks like "White Heat," "Evergreen," "Love, Love, Love," and the Hank Williams sing-a-long "You Won My Heart Outright" from 2007's Time and Space, and on the more recent "I Want You to Sing Along With Me," Arin shares the highs and lows of a contemplative life. [She] writes with profound emotional intimacy and honesty and has an exquisite voice to boot. Her talent is on par with early Gillian Welch, Jana Hunter and Nina Nastasia…"
With patience and perseverance, Emily intends to transition from the workaday world to making her living as a singer-songwriter. To support this process, she is working on her third New Music Subscription series. Subscribing is an environmentally-friendly way to support independent music—and it's fun!—a surprise in your inbox every month (which always includes a story behind the song). The $15 for the 3rd series will additionally help provide free music lessons (either on piano or guitar) over the six month series to three students in Schuyler County, New York--the northern-most county in Appalachia where Emily currently resides. The monthly emails will include an introduction to the students and updates on their inspirations and progress as young musicians.
