Hasan Zaidi is a director and journalist based in Karachi, Pakistan. He directed and produced his first feature film, "Raat Chali Hai Jhoom Ke" (aka "The Long Night") in 2000 which has been shown at the Commonwealth Film Festival, the Leeds Film Festival, the Chennai Film Festival and the Dubai International Film Festival among others and at various screenings in New York, Boston, San Francisco and Los Angeles. It won the Special Jurors' Selection prize at the 1st KaraFilm Festival (Karachi International Film Festival) as well as a prize for the Best Female Supporting Actor and was also selected by the British Film Institute for screenings in Glasgow, Bristol and London.
He has also directed a number of documentaries, short films and music videos, some of which have been screened internationally. He is also the current festival director of the KaraFilm Festival and has strong relationships with the film industry in India.
As a journalist, he has won the All Pakistan Newspaper Society's award for journalistic excellence three times and has also worked as the Pakistan correspondent for a number of international news organizations including NBC News, Channel News Asia (Singapore) and India Today. Most recently he was in charge of the project bringing exclusive WikiLeaks disclosures to the Pakistani public through partnership with Pakistan's largest English language newspaper, Dawn. He was also instrumental in training staff during the establishment of some of Pakistan's most well known television news channels.
He is currently developing two new feature film projects, including one based on a internationally critically acclaimed new novel, as well as a documentary based on his own experiences in Afghanistan.
